“Dieting is just not in the cards for me”

Jennifer Lawrence may have been killing it in her gold sequin dress on the Oscars red carpet, but don’t expect to hear any diet secrets from her any time soon. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she revealed that dieting to get skinny for movie roles just wasn’t her thing.

Her roles, generally, didn’t require her to make any major weight loss changes. Though, there are a few exceptions, and her latest film Red Sparrow is one of them.

“I’ve always wondered what it would take to get me to really diet, to really be hungry, because I’ve never done it for a movie. For Hunger Games, they told me to lose weight, and then I discovered Jack in the Box,” Lawrence said. “Red Sparrow was the first time that I was really hungry and disciplined. I can’t be in character as an ex-ballerina and not feel like an ex-ballerina.”

For the film, she worked with ballet trainer Kurt Froman, who also trained Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis for Black Swan. Despite her personal opinion on diets, Lawrence stayed professional and followed the diet needed for her role. Once they finished filming her six-minute dance sequence though, the diet was long gone.

“I can’t work on a diet. I’m hungry. I’m standing on my feet. I need more energy. I remember having a meltdown, freaking out that I had eaten five banana chips,” she admitted.

She was even comforted by some European street food. “I discovered this Viennese kielbasa sausage in an uncircumcised French-bread roll, with pickle relish,” she said. “I had that almost every day in Budapest—which you can see, because I continue to grow in the movie.”
