It’s not fun to exercise on your period. Actually, it’s not fun to do anything on your period. But you can’t let it stop you from working out. It might not seem like a good idea, but it’s perfectly okay and even recommended that you exercise on period days.
All those things that make your period terrible can be fixed by exercise. For one, it can help boost your mood during your period. Your hormones can go all over the place, but exercise releases endorphin to lighten your mood. It’s similar to how exercise helps ease depression; it even eases fatigue and restlessness.
Also, exercise during your period can help with bloating and cramps. Exercise helps you burn prostaglandins, which is what causes muscle cramps. It even puts you in a state of analgesia or pain relief.

You can still do your usual exercises if you’re up for it. Otherwise, light aerobic exercises or yoga will do. Since these are all about breathing, they’ll relieve stress and improve blood circulation to counter period pain. Be careful though when doing inverted yoga poses. Women’s Health states that these might cause excessive blood flow.
Athletes aren’t the only ones who can train during their period. You can still do your usual exercises even if you’re bleeding out. The benefits you get from exercising on any other day would work just as well on your period days. Though, skipping one day of exercise isn’t so bad either.
