Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, and Janine Pontejos led the Gilas girls to secure its first SEA Games gold

The Philippine women’s basketball team clinched their first ever SEA Games gold medal today, Dec. 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena, after taking down Thailand (91-71) in the women’s basketball 5×5 finals.
Jack Animan led the Gilas girls with 21 points, five rebounds, and two blocks. Animan, who shot 9-for-10 from the field, erupted in the third quarter, which helped build a comfortable lead for the home team. Role players Afril Bernardino and Janine Pontejos also combined for 26 points to crown the Philippines as the new 5×5 basketball queens in the region.

The women’s basketball team concluded their SEA Games campaign with a perfect 3-0 record, ending the women’s team’s gold medal drought.
