In 2019, sneakerheads saw a lot of retros, killer colorways and new silhouettes dominate the sneaker industry. It was a year full of collaborations among athletes, luxury brands and musicians as well as pop-culture themed shoes, from SpongeBob SquarePants to Friends. Sneaker fans also witnessed a series of gems, namely the Bred Air Jordan 4s and the rise of sneaker tech innovations like Nike’s Joyride foam and the Nike Adapt BB self-lacing sneakers.

We can expect similar trends in 2020: chunky, bold, bright sunny hues, and a bunch of throwbacks. This is the year when sneakers are expected to be novel and extremely innovative. According to Sneaker Freaker, expect to see corduroy-textured sneakers, scratch-sectioned sneakers and more collaborations. If you’re wondering what signatures are set to be released this year, here are some of the most anticipated sneakers of 2020:

Air Jordan Women’s OG

This year will be dominated by the Air Jordan 1s and 13 retro models, as well as the comeback of the first women’s basketball Jordan shoe—but this time with a twist: a carbon fiber plating on the midfoot.

Sean Wotherspoon’s ASICS GEL-Lyte III

Sean Wotherspoon’s upcoming ASICS Gel-Lyte III is expected to be a classic. It’s designed with loud, wide and mismatched colors—the left with a mix of blue, orange and neon green while the right is filled with a darker shade of purple forest and brown. The tiger logos can both complement or contrast the design depending on your choice.

Off-White x Air Jordan 5

In collaboration with Off-White, the Air Jordan 5s will most likely make its debut at this year’s All-Star game. Dubbed as the pair that touched the soul of Off-White designer Virgil Abloh, the shoes are made with a full synthetic-translucent exterior along with a gray and black color palette that covers the midsole and pre-yellowed outsoles.

Travis Scott x Nike SB Dunk Low

Travis Scott is expected to drop more of his signature sneakers similar to his first themed Air Force 1 shoe. The leaked pictures suggest that the Travis Scott Dunk Low is going to embody the rapper’s liking for earth tones with a dark navy contrast throughout the shoe. The pair of shoes is also rumored to have the same smooth leather and materials as the darkened swoosh.

Dior x Air Jordan 1

Making its debut this year, these Italian-made shoes are designed with a white and gray upper along with the words “Air Dior” embroidered on the wings. The light gray color pays tribute to the French brand’s history as this was also the color of Dior when it was established in 1947.

Air Jordan 1 “Chicago”

In line with its 35th anniversary, the Air Jordan “Chicago” will make a return to its original form: high-cut and designed in varsity red, black and white.

Sacai x Nike LDWaffle “Black Nylon

Sacai and Nike will be releasing the “Black Nylon” LDWaffle in the first half of the year. The shoe is dressed in tonal black with a vibrant colored mesh on the upper sole made with sturdier nylon.

Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Game Royal”

As mentioned, Air Jordan 1s will be dominating the sneaker industry this year. One of the many expected to come out is the Game Royal sneakers in collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara. The shoe’s ankle underlays and toe boxes are dressed in royal blue tones while the rest of the shoe is covered in black and white.

Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Court Purple”

Another signature look of the Air Jordan 1 series coming out this year is the Court Purple. This is one of the reinterpreted Jordans coming out this year with its classic color blocking and more palette swaps.

More Yeezy

It’s been five years since Kanye West released his first Yeezy sneaker with Adidas and it’s been nothing but successful. In 2018, Yeezys marked record-breaking numbers in terms of units sold and 2019 saw more colorways released. Expect 2020 to be another solid year as Kanye is set to release the signature foam runner, algae sneakers, basketball sneakers, and of course the Yeezy Boost 350 v3.
