Claire Adorna also nabbed silver in the women’s tournament while Nikko Huelgas wins bronze

The Philippine triathlon team started their year on an impressive note thanks to Fer Casares who delivered gold in the Sprint Triathlon tournament in the 2020 Southeast Asian Championships held in Thailand.

The 23-year old Casares finished the 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run in just 56 minutes and 14 seconds. Casares was also part of the Philippine national mixed relay team who finished gold in the 2019 SEA Games. Singapore’s Luke Chua finished second with a time of 57 minutes and 25 seconds.

Veteran Nikko Huelgas nabbed bronze after finishing the race in 58:35 minutes while Claire Adorna secured a silver medal finish in the women’s tournament after clocking in 1 hour and 7:40 minutes. Singapore’s Emma Middledeitch topped the women’s tournament with a time of 1:06:12.

The top performer of the tournament was Malaysia’s Aimi Muhammad who clocked in 1:11:41 to lead all triathletes.
