Nesthy Petecio displayed pure dominance in her first match against Sri Lanka’s Krismi Langkapurayalage (5-0) in the featherweight tournament of the Asia-Oceania Olympic boxing qualifiers held in Amman, Jordan.
Petecio, who is seeded number one, is a win away from booking a slot to her long time dream—the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The 27-year-old only needs to win her match against Japan’s Sena Irie to advance to the semifinals as well as clinch a berth at the Olympics.
Aside from Petecio, Ian Clark Bautista made it 2-0 for the Philippines after defeating Japan’s Hayato Tsutsumi by split decision. Bautista will take on Thailand’s Chatchai Butdee on Friday.
