Marikina mayor Mercelino Teodoro announced the suspension of Palarong Pambansa 2020 that was supposed to take place from May 1 to 9.
The suspension came right after the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in the city. An 86-year-old, who recently traveled to South Korea, tested positive for the virus.
Teodoro says the suspension is for the safety of athletes and their families. The mayor also said that Marikina will be going through massive disinfection for its residents. This was supposed to be the first time Marikina will host the annual sporting event.
