The Santé Barley TriTeam is one of the Philippines’ biggest team contingent
Santé Barley TriTeam, the official triathlon team of Santé, has qualified to compete at this year’s Vega Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii on Oct. 10.
The Santé Barley TriTeam is one of the Philippines’ biggest contingents with four qualifiers. Led by team captain Robert Janah Rivera, the team is composed of David Richmond, Jethro Karl Ramos and Retzel Orquiza—who have all bagged local and international championships in triathlon and Ironnman races.
“Races like the Ironman World Championship are the reason why we train hard. We will give our all to bring honor not just for the team but also for our country,” says Rivera.
The team recently won top honors at two major local triathlon races, specifically the National Age Group Triathlon Race 2020 in January and the Apollo Petroleum Jelly TRI 2020 in February.
However, the Ironman World Championship will be a tougher challenge with over 2,000 of the best athletes trying to conquer the 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile marathon amid black lava rocks, 45mph, 95-degree “ho’omumuku” crosswinds and the scorching sun.
“We are proud of this achievement,” says Joey Marcelo, Santé CEO and Santé Barley team owner.
