The relationship of the San Antonio Spurs and Kawhi Leonard might come to an end after reports state that the star wanted to be traded—preferably to Los Angeles Lakers.

The 2014 Finals MVP started missing practices and played just nine games last season until he was ruled out for an indefinite period of time to rehabilitate his right quadriceps tendinopathy. Come the playoffs, Leonard stayed in the wind and did not return in their first-round match against the Golden State Warriors who eventually kicked the Spurs out of the playoff picture.

The 6’7” small forward expressed his career plans just a week after the 2017-18 season ended. In a tweet by ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, Leonard see Lakers as his top priority. The Spurs didn’t want to rush things and will have to arrange trade talks with the said franchise.

However, multiple teams were quick to join the party. Boston Celtics also expressed their strong interest in the star and was willing to trade assets like Jaylen Brown, their 18th pick and protected 19th pick of the Sacramento Kings. The Los Angeles Clippers will also try to reach out with the Spurs if Leonard becomes available for trade talks.

Leonard was selected 15th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. Three years later, he won a championship with Spurs legend Tim Duncan after beating LeBron James and the Miami Heat. Leonard was also rewarded the Defensive Player of the Year trophy in 2015 and 2016.
