DeMarcus Cousins is set to complete the Golden State Warriors’ lethal starting five after agreeing to a one-year, $5.3 million deal.

The four-time NBA All-Star is still recovering from a left Achilles tendon injury he suffered last season with the New Orleans Pelicans, where he averaged 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while shooting 35.4 percent beyond the arc in just 48 games.

Since the free agency arrived, the Pelicans reportedly did not offer any contracts to Cousins nor did the 29 other teams in the league. Since then, Cousins has quickly refocused on which team he’s going to play for next season. According to ESPN sources, Cousins had Boston Celtics and the Warriors on his radar before engaging in a phone conversation with Warriors president Bob Myers that may have sealed the deal.

The 6’11” center also told The Undefeated that his decision to join the Warriors was his “ace of spades” and the “smartest move” he’s ever done in his career.

The arrival of Cousins was perfect as the Warriors recently opted not to re-sign center Javale McGee, turning the champion into a free agent before signing with the Los Angeles Lakers yesterday after LeBron James confirmed his transfer.

Cousins and future teammate Kevin Durant are known to have beef against each other, but the new Warrior told ESPN that he had great conversations with superstars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Durant.

Curry is already hyped up on his new teammate and took to Twitter to express his excitement, calling Cousins their third “Splash Brother.”

With Cousins on their roster, the Warriors has just strengthened their core and remains the toughest team to beat in the NBA.
