Cabagnot: We’re still striving for the perfect game

Even with six guys shooting at least 50 percent from the field in Game 2, Alex Cabagnot believes the Beermen are not in their best form yet

Coming off a five-point output in their Game 1 defeat against Barangay Ginebra, Alex Cabagnot made sure he shot the lights out in last night’s Game 2 as he exploded for a career-high 33 points to lift the San Miguel Beermen past the Kings, 134-109.

Cabagnot shone in every aspect of the game, sinking 22 points after the first two periods on top of eight dishes and four steals to anchor the Beermen’s domineering 75-46 halftime lead.

The Beermen totally turned the tables after a rubbish start that saw Ginebra easily demolish them, 127-99, behind a superb performance from Justin Brownlee.

But the defending champs were quick to avenge their disappointing loss, showing off a mighty comeback win before the 15,042 fans who came out to watch Game 2. “The shots were just falling today I guess,” Cabagnot said yesterday in front of the media.

“I’m pretty sure there’s still a lot of mistakes that we need to patch up so we’re still striving for that perfect game. Hopefully we could attain that

The crunch man made 12 of 18 field goal attempts while playing 37 minutes on the floor. He made all of his two-point field goal shots, scoring 14 points, and drained five long bombs including three straight treys in the second quarter that saw the Beermen completely pull away.

Although they were able to bounce back in a massive way, Cabagnot still sees a lot of room for improvement if they want to seal another championship.

“We’re not thinking about it like that. They played well in Game 1. We played well in Game 2. That’s just the ebony-ivory flow of the series so we can’t look at it as personal like that so we just have to continue to watch extensive film and just continue to learn,” Cabagnot said.

“I’m pretty sure there’s still a lot of mistakes that we need to patch up so we’re still striving for that perfect game. Hopefully we could attain that.”
