This month, Federer, arguably the greatest tennis player ever, will shoot for his 21st Grand Slam singles title in fashion where he’ll don a new game wear model created by the design team at the Uniqlo Paris R&D Center led by artistic director Christophe Lemaire.
“As the defending champion, I want to play my best so that I achieve a great result again this year. Working closely with the Uniqlo product development team, we have created a highly refined match outfit that provides the functionality I need to play my best on the court while also making sure we pay careful attention to design and detail. I’m looking forward to stepping on the court in Melbourne with the new designs.”
The tweaked Roger Federer dry ex polo short features a new open collar instead of the stand collar seen from the last collection. Departing from last season’s white and red combo, the new game wear now comes in deep blue to contrast with the hard courts of Melbourne Park, accented with white piping on the shirttail. Functional elements include a fully mesh back to provide good breathability, allowing for high-performance play.
With history on the line, Federer isn’t taking any chances. Even when it comes to something as seemingly simple as his tennis apparel.
Uniqlo will offer replica game wear worn at the 2019 Australian Open by Roger Federer, which will be available from Jan. 14, at Uniqlo Manila in Glorietta 5.
