Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are forced to spend time indoors and resort to video games to get their sports fix. Video games, specifically esports, have skyrocketed especially since they still involve competition and require both physical and mental skills. Enough to even hold a place at major sporting events like the 2019 SEA Games.

If you’re wondering what the esports world is like or you’re looking to try out something new amid the lockdown, here are five free video games you can download:

“Dota 2”

Arguably the most popular online video game, “Dota 2” is played by two teams of five. The goal is to defend the home base and protect the ancient structure in it. Each player has their own skill set and must collect points and items for their characters, which they get to use against each other. “Dota 2” is popular for its blend of real-time strategy and role-playing game features.

“Call of Duty: Warzone”

“Call of Duty: Warzone” is a free-to-play battle royale game that allows users to participate simultaneously on different platforms. The game can be played in three modes, namely Blood Money, BR Solos, and Battle Royal where each game has its own set of missions and game plans.

“Counter-Strike: Global Offensive”

Dubbed the best online PC shooting game, “Counter-Strike Global Offensive” is a skill-based and multiplayer first-person shooting game in which two teams called The Terrorist and the Counter-Terrorist go at it. The goal of each team depends on the choice of game mode (there are nine for this corresponding game). It also allows users to play with others and host their own servers.

“League of Legends”

Inspired by “Warcraft III,” the goal of the game is to destroy the other team’s “Nexus,” which is found at their corresponding home bases. Each character possesses different powers and must fight against other players or computer-controlled players who also have distinct abilities. The game also comes in a number of modes with a variety of game plans and rules.

“Destiny 2”

“Destiny 2” can either be played as Player Versus Environment (PvE) or Player Versus Player (PVP) with each mode offering a story-mission type of play. If you participate in PvE, you play the role of a guardian who is in charge of protecting the last city from aliens and is on a journey to defeat your nemesis named Ghaul and his Red Legion army. Meanwhile in PVP, multiplayers participate in a shared-world environment where they go on missions and have their own role-playing game plans.
