Ateneo De Manila High School standout Kai Sotto has decided to skip collegiate basketball and take his talents to the NBA G League instead. According to The Athletic NBA insider Shams Charania, the 7’2 cager will be the first international draft prospect to sign a deal with the NBA G League.

Sotto, who just turned 18, will play alongside Filipino-American standout Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd, and Daishen Nix for the new G League team based in Southern California. Sotto will be entitled to a six-figure salary as well as possible endorsements and free education—most of which he wouldn’t receive if he decided to play in the NCAA.

Before signing with the G League, Sotto was ranked 68th in the ESPN NBA draft class of 2020. Sotto was noted to have a scout grade of 83 and ranked 11th among big men on the list, branding him as a four-star recruit.
