SEA Games gold medalist Jocel Ninobla won gold in the first online Daedo Open European Poomsae tournament last May 10. The three-time UAAP poomsae champion scored a total of 7.565 for both her Koryo and Pyongwon performances.

Coming in second and third place were Spain’s Raquel Sanchez and Iran’s Mahsa Sadeghi who both scored a total of 7.515. Sanchez ended up winning the silver medal since she had the tiebreaker advantage. There were a total of 111 jins participants in the virtual challenge.

“Players needed to send three sets of videos for preliminary, semis and finals,” says Igor Mella, the national coach. The videos must meet certain specifications set by the organizers,” Mella added.

The first online Daedo European tournament was an experiment conducted by the European Taekwondo Union in order to see if more tournaments can be held virtually. According to Mella, participants captured their performance on a plateau and rooftop. The union allowed participants to shoot their videos in different angles for as long as the players were inside the frame at all times.
