After 84 days of closure, gyms and fitness studios may finally operate at 50 percent capacity in cities under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
According to Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez, among those allowed to operate under MGCQ are businesses under category four, which includes gyms, fitness studios, sports facilities, entertainment industries (theaters, cinemas, and karaoke bars), and amusement industries. Lopez also says that indoor non-contact sports activities will be permitted under MGCQ.
Gyms like Anytime Fitness and Pound for Pound Fitness have already released their announcements regarding reopening during MGCQ.
As of writing, Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Region II, Region III, Region IV-A, Region VII, Cebu City, Mandaue City, Zamboanga City, and Davao City are still under general community quarantine. However, these cities are expected to transition to MGCQ by next week.
Other establishments allowed to operate during MGCQ are internet and computer shops (for educational purposes), cultural centers (libraries, archives, and museums), and vacation sites such as resorts, beaches, and water parks.
