Fil-Australian chess player Arianne Caoili passes away

The 33-year-old reportedly died from her car crash injuries in Armenia

Arianne Caoili, a Fil-Australian chess player, passed away on Tuesday, Mar. 31, due to injuries from a vehicular accident in Yerevan, Armenia. Her husband Levon Aronian shared the tragic news on his Twitter account:

The 33-year-old  was one of the big names in  Philippine chess, inspiring many chess players alike. She won the Women’s Cup staged by the Philippine Chess Society in 2000 at just 14 years old. While Caoili was representing the Philippines, she received the title of Woman International Master before switching federations and playing for Australia in 2004. She married Levon Aronian in 2017 who is currently the top-ranked Armenian and world number 7. 

It was reported that Caoili got into a road accident on Mar. 15 when her car crashed into a supporting column under the bridge near Lake Yerevan.
