If you want a fun workout, the Nintendo Wii might just get you in shape
For someone who spends most of their time playing video games, working out is pretty hard to get into. If it’s not the idea of moving more, it’s the thought of just going out to exercise. Thankfully, you can play and exercise at the same time. Here are a few Nintendo Wii games that double as a workout.
Just Dance
While it may seem like, well, just dancing, “Just Dance” can actually hold its own as a workout. Since the release of “Just Dance 2,” the game now features “Just Sweat,” which is basically a mode built for exercise. And starting in “Just Dance 4,” the game will calculate how much calories you’ve burned and assigns a song that is either ‘Intense’ or ‘Cool,’ which allows you to burn roughly 400 calories in an hour.
Zumba Fitness
Zumba was once a very popular fitness trend that still actually works. If you’re not the type to join classes with strangers, at least do it at home. This game includes 30 Zumba routines and even dance instructors. Fitness Blender indicates it can burn about 300 to 650 calories an hour and since it’s a dancing game, Zumba Fitness is also a good toning workout.
EA Sports Active 2
What’s great about “EA Sports Active 2” is that it has a lot of features that make it seem so real. The game even comes with accessories for a better workout experience. A built-in heart rate monitor attaches on your left forearm, which shows your real-time heart rate on the screen. You can even track your progress in the game as well as customize your workout to meet your fitness goals.
Dance Dance Revolution
A popular arcade game that was made compatible to home video game devices, “Dance Dance Revolution” can be played anywhere—Playstation, Xbox, or Wii. According Livestrong, the amount of energy spent playing one mid-level game is roughly the same as walking 3.66 miles in an hour.
