Skateboard champion Margielyn Didal nabbed her first SEA Games gold after conquering the women’s skateboard tournament on Thursday at Sigtuna Hall in the Tagaytay International Convention Center.
Didal’s flawless skate routine outshone fellow Filipina skater Christiana Means in the tricks tournament. The Asian Games gold medalist also edged out Myanmar’s Thawdar Shin and Indonesia’s Nyimas Cinta in the semifinals. On the other hand, Means defeated Singapore’s Nur Farah Atika Abdullah in the preliminaries and Kyandra Suasanto to complete the country’s 1-2 medal finish.
Philippines wins first chess SEA Games gold
The Philippine national chess team, composed of Eugene Torre, Darwin Laylo, and Paulo Bersamin, claimed the country’s first ever gold medal in chess in the SEA Games on Friday at the Traveler’s Hotel Rialto Function Room in Subic, Zambales.
The men’s team outsmarted Thailand to add another gold to the country’s medal haul. Meanwhile, the women’s team composed of Janelle Mae Frayna, Catherine Secopito, and Shania Mendoza settled for silver after bowing down to Singapore.
