After nabbing the Grand Slam title with teammate Proska Nugroho at the Australian Open Juniors double tournament last week, Alex Eala improved her world ranking to number four in the juniors circuit earlier today.
Eala, who became the first Filipino to win the Grand Slam title since 2009, was ranked ninth place before the 2020 Australian Open. Despite her third-round exit in the singles tournament, the 14-year-old earned a total of 1,718.75 points thanks to her outstanding performance in the Junior’s doubles tournament.
Since Eala is now part of the top five in the world juniors circuit, the young tennis star will get to advance and have the opportunity to take part in the high-level women’s tournament.
